1
- All patients experience their own operation – whether under general or
local anaesthesia – as the world’s biggest event of the day. Our
medical team takes careful precautions before every operation. Even though
we can never promise a 100 per cent success, we guarantee to lend maximum
concentration to a successful operation. A successful result is in all of
our interests. Also the patients have to get prepared: before the
operation, and afterwards when undergoing post-operational maintenance.

2
- On the day of the operation you should bring a written statement by your
general doctor confirming that you are in a state of health capable of an
operation. For stationary treatment the following diagnostic findings are
needed: electrocardiogram (ECG), radiograph of your lungs (a written
statement will be sufficient), large blood count (erythrocyte
sedimentation rate, clotting, K, Na, SGOT, Y-GT, PTT, HIV, H-substance,
Creatinin, Proteineogram, Lipidogram, blood sugar, blood group,
RH-factor).Children will only need a written statement by their
pediatrician. We advice women before undergoing a breast operation –
especially those above the age of thirty - to take a mammogram first. If
you have not had any serious disease over the last year and are taking an
ambulant operation, we will only ask you to bring a small blood count,
clotting and ECG (patients of 50 years and older).

3
- If you are taking hormones of any kind (the pill), you should stop
at least a month ahead of the operation; the operation itself should not
be on the day of menstruation. Smokers should refrain from smoking for at
least two weeks before and another two weeks after the operation –
especially in case of facelifting operations, breast- or adominal wall
tautening. Aspirin and any medication that contains acetylsalicyl –
acids (a list of further such medication is below) must not be taken for
at least three days before and three days after the medication. Both
increases the bleeding and jeopardises the healing process. If you are
taking any medication for blood dilution, perhaps after a heart valve or a
by-pass operation, or after thrombosis, please ask your doctor whether the
risk of interrupting is not too high. If so, you should, of course,
refrain from the operation. Please inform us about all your former
diseases and operations, if possible bring your allergy pass.

4
- BEWARE HOMEOPATHIC TREATMENT! Herbal medicine that contains, for example,
ginko or garlic, can fuel bleeding, ginseng can cause tachycardia.
Saint-John’s-wort as well as all solanums (tomatoes, eggplant, potatoes)
should not be on the menu for a few days prior to the operation as they
contain substances that can prolong anaesthetic effects. As a result –
according to recent research studies from the University of Chicago -
patients will take longer to recover from exhaustion. Although general
aesthesia has now become safer through more reliable medication,
intravenous analgesia ("dozing sleep") – combined with local
or tumescense anaesthetics - is used in most cases of aesthetic surgeries.
An ANAESTHETIC SPECIALIST will be present during every operation to check
the patients‘ vital functions (breathing, circulation) – until some
time after the operation.
5
- Before undergoing a breast reduction operation or a liposuction,
your body weight should be in reasonable balance with your body size - at
least two weeks ahead of the operation: This will facilitate the operation
for the surgeon and the outcome will be more promising for the patient.
Please refrain from alcohol for at least a week before, and a week after
the operation. Any mild cosmetics like vitamin lotion or any
non-aggressive lotion can be applied in order to prepare the skin –
please ask your beautician. We provide a list of recommendable addresses
on request. The same applies for post-operational skin care. Better avoid
all rather aggressive substances like Retinol before any
tautening-operation. – Patients facing liposuction, a breast operation
or an abdominal wall tautening will receive a corsage or a bra on the day
of the operation (price included). Thrombosis stockings are available at
most sanitary shops. It is very important that you start "bicycling"
(in bed) immediately after the operation so your calve pumps enforce blood
circulation: this is in fact perfect prophylactic treatment against
thrombosis.

6
- On the morning before you arrive at the clinic we recommend using a
medical shampoo (with disinfectant; available at your local pharmacy) for
washing. Extra attention should be paid to the part of the body going to
be operated (in case of a face operation make sure you wash head and hair
as well). Please do not use any make-up on that day and leave all your
valuables at home. Concentrate on your post-operational recovery.
7
- On the day of the operation you should not consume food or drink in
the morning. We will await you at 8 a.m. at the clinic. Everything will be
easier if you bring your natural optimism: be positive about the approach
and your post-operational result! If you wish you can spend the night
before the operation at our neighbouring partner hotel (65 euros per night).
You may also find more luxurious places in Bad Godesberg. 90%
of our patients choose the "day-clinic-procedure": In that case
you have your operation in the morning; and in the afternoon you move into
the neighbouring hotel. Irregular circulation – if at all – will only
occur a few hours after the operation when you are still under inspection.
Still you must not yet drive or use public transportation by yourself. If
you do not feel fit enough in the afternoon, you can stay at our clinic
for another 1-5 days (200 euro per extra night). Meanwhile your car can be
parked in our underground garage for free. If you have traveled a long
way, you can stay at our partner hotel (100 metres away from the clinic)
for a couple of days. We are always glad to offer assistance.

8
- After the operation we recommend you wait before taking a real sun
& summer holiday. Nevertheless, if you still want to go, use at least
sun protection factor 30-40 and spend more time in the shade. Be aware
that the sun enforces blood circulation which often leaves a rough and
more prominent scar. Also avoid make-up for the first nine days because it
can have quite a similar effect: small particles might leave visible
traces on the scar. From the 10th day on you can start wearing
make-up again. After face-lift operations or nose corrections cosmetic
camouflage can be used much sooner – although better do not apply on the
fresh scars directly.
9
- Remember that your health insurance does not have to pay for the
costs of an aesthetic operation (§1, Abs.2, GOÄ).
10
- Experience shows that only 20% of our patients need to take pain
reliever – which means that the majority of our patients do not
experience great pain. Patients‘ reactions can be very different,
completely unrelated to the type of operation. Avoid caffeine during the
first four days after the operation: it might provoke post-operational
bleeding. Before leaving the clinic you will be provided with the
necessary medication and we will set an appointment for a
follow-up-treatment (included in the price for the operation) during which
we change the bandage, remove the stitches, and so on. Usually we can also
arrange for check-ups three weeks and three months after the operation.
