Dr.
Dimitrije E. Panfilov views himself as a mediator between surgeon and
patient, between medicine and art, between science and the public. His
activities include his surgical work at his own renowned Private Clinic
Nofretete for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in Bonn as well as scientific
contributions to numerous international plastic surgery associations where
membership is usually granted only to exclusive candidates. In many
associations, Mr. Panfilov figures as one of very few German members. Mr.
Panfilov started from scratch: 14 years ago he was forced to leave his war
torn home country Yugolsavia. 7 years later he opened his own Private Clinic
Nofretete. His career resembles an example of the American dream.
The global player’s multi-facetted education
Dr.
Panfilov received the crown of his education – as he himself calls the title
of medical specialist for surgery and plastic surgery – at the Goethe
University Clinics in Frankfurt/ Main. Those years of apprenticeship under
the guidance of the renowned plastic surgeon Professor Lemperle carry a
special importance for Panfilov. Professor Lemperle not only taught him how
to perfect his surgical skills. He also taught him the importance of
critically considering medical dogma.
Until today, Panfilov has maintained a friendship with his former teacher.
Dr. Panfilov contributes to Prof. Lemperle’s texts. And vice versa: the
‘master’ who lives in San Diego committedly contributes to the publications
of his former pupil. When he was still a “Facharzt” (junior consultant), Dr.
Panfilov regularly attended international congresses and took part in
specialists’ courses. He sat in on surgery session of plastic surgery
luminaries in Paris, Madrid, Cambridge, Glasgow, New York, Mexico City, Sao
Paulo, etc.
Dr. Panfilov and his wife Sanja
Panfilov are managing the clinic as a team. Sanja Panfilov is the „fairy
godmother“ to many of our patients who appreciate her considerate care.
Precision - Harmony – Experience – Empathy
Dr. Dimitrije Panfilov has meanwhile become senior consultant of his own
clinic, the Private Clinic Nofretete for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in Bonn.
In his clinic, named after the famous ancient Egyptian queen, Dr. Panfilov
conducts various types of surgery, among them the MIDI-face-lift, a very
mild face-lifting method which he has developed himself. Dr. Panfilov is one
of Germany’s best known plastic surgeons. His latest book „Moderne
Schönheitschirurgie“ („Modern Beauty Surgery“) is already considered a
classic by his colleagues as well as by his patients. It will soon enter the
English-speaking markets. In October 2002, the Nofretete Clinic received the
highest marks in terms of patient consultancy for liposuction from the
German consumer organisation „Stiftung Warentest“ - outdoing 30 other
surgeons in Germany. In 1999, the New York TIME-Magazine wrote in its cover
story (01.1.1999): "Nofretete - Bonn's chic private Clinic." The media likes
to consult him because he knows how to speak in a way clearly understandable
to journalists. He offers orientation to patients and tells them what is
important to consider before choosing a doctor to conduct aesthetic plastic
surgery.

The book „Modern Beauty Surgery“ by Dr. Panfilov provides helpful
orientation for many patients.
National und international activities
Dr.
Panfilov feels at home in the international scene. He has given talks on all
continents, he is the founder of the „Global Expert Service in Aesthetic
Plastic Surgery“ as well as editor and publisher of the English-German „Aesthetic
News“. In his projects he is working with 30 plastic surgery luminaries from
22 countries. The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS),
the oldest, biggest and most renowned specialist association, has granted
him membership, making him one of their very few non-American members. At
the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), which only
accepts accredited plastic surgery specialists, he has joined the Public
Educational Committee.
Journalist of the Japanese
Nippon-TV have traveled to Germany to interview Dr. Panfilov.
The list
of his activities in many national and international specialist associations
– including the German Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (Deutsche
Gesellschaft für Ästhetisch-Plastische Chirurgie, DGÄPC) – does not stop
here. In 2000 he was called to Lithuania as a visiting professor at Vilnius
University. The exchange of information on a national and on an
international level is important to Dr. Panfilov who has organised eight
international symposiums, some of which had surgery courses in their
programme. He regularly receives invitations to speak at international
congresses. He has published four books and at least 100 contributions in
specialist publications.
Dr. Panfilov sets
the tone – at the piano and likewise in his field of specialty.
Professionalism und Humanity
Dr.
Panfilov was one of the first to consider the psychological constitution of
the patient. He examined, for example, individual motivations for aesthetic
plastic surgery and the psychological consequences of plastic surgery.
His humanitarian activities include work for the „Aktion
Friedensdorf-Oberhausen“ and for Interplast Germany where poor people,
especially children, receive free treatment. In 1988, Dr. Panfilov received
the golden medal from the University Seoul/ Korea for humanitarian surgery.

Honoured for
humanitarian aid: In 1998, Dr. Panfilov received the golden medal of the
University of Seoul /South Korea for humanitarian activities
Profession and Hobby
Dr. Dimitrije Panfilov’s life goes beyond his profession. In fact, he would
love to be able to spend more time with his family. Panfilov plays pool,
loves the outdoors, especially golfing, he has a passion for skiing, plays
the piano and loves sculpture and painting. He holds a camera diploma which
he received when he was still at university; he is the author of seven
TV-productions.

Always on the go –
also in his private life. Yet sometimes Dr. Panfilov longs for more moments
of relaxation.
In
Germany, he has published three video films on aesthetic surgery. The US
„Discovery Channel“ broadcasted a three-minute sequence on him in 2003. A
production of his own will be shown on Japanese TV in September 2004.
Sometimes he ponders taking more time for himself – but his passion for
plastic surgery makes it almost impossible for him to draw a clear line
between hobby and profession. He is completely devoted to his speciality and
in his work concentrates on raising the quality of aesthetic plastic surgery.
This is why he views himself as a mediator between surgeon and patient,
between medicine and art, between science and the public. A committed
surgeon surgeon should meet a well-informed patient.
“Anthropo-Design”
Aesthetic Surgery is becoming human applied Art
Dr.
Dimitrije E. Panfilov views the work of an aesthetic plastic surgeon as a
balancing act between science, psychology, art and craftmanship. He has thus
been invited as a guest speaker to museums, academies and art schools.
In April
2004, he presented his talk on "Anthropo-Design" at the New York Museum for
Art and Design on the occasion of an exhibition on "Corporal Identity". His
appearance was broadcast by the CNN. In July 2003, he contributed to an
event "körperKUNSTkörper" (bodyARTbody) which was part of a larger
exhibition on „Body Language“ at the Frankfurt Museum for Applied Art.
Panfilov is editor of an anthology of aphorisms and poems, and he has
written poems which have been published in various verse compilations. Some
of his pre- and post-surgery photographs are displayed in art history books
next to works by Tizian, Dürer, Ingres.

The New
Yorker Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) invited Dr. Panfilov to talk about „The
Human Being as a Work of Art“.
