The cachet

The cachet for a successful aesthetic operation is the specialist for plastic surgery. A specialist who has focused on conducting aesthetic operations for a long time.

The ideal surgeon

Aesthetic plastic surgery marks a quadrangle: Science – Psychology – Art – Handcraft

The following characteristics assure confidence in a reliable plastic surgeon:

ACCURACY

DEVOTION

EXPERIENCE

EMPATHY

In addition the ideal surgeon should be blessed with the following features:

Precision – fantasy – creative talent – scientific interest – endurance – humour – luck

Be critical.

Risk! The highest risk during an operation is the surgeon himself if he lacks education and experience. The term "beauty surgery" is not a trademark. According to the German law any doctor can conduct surgery. Many of them call themselves beauty surgeons but have in fact never had any systematic surgical education; for example internists, general doctors, even physicians without any special education. The official admission for "plastic operations" is awarded by the chamber of physicians; it is related to the physicians’ special field. However if a gyneacologist becomes involved in facelifts or an ENT specialist in breasts and bellies you quite rightly become suspicious.

Complications

Not even the greatest authorities on our field can exclude themselves from facing complications. Profoundly educated and experienced plastic surgeons however will usually not be confronted with serious complications. If minor complications occur – which is rather exceptional – we are trained to react quickly and with competence.

Your questions

Please feel free to ask all these - and more - questions when looking for a reliable plastic aesthetic surgeon:

How long has the surgeon conducted these kinds of operations?

How many such operations has he done?

Does he mainly operate in aesthetic surgery or is this just his secondary field of work?

Can he show you pictures taken after a successful operation? An experienced surgeon has a large number of them.

In which field did the surgeon specialise? Does he have a diploma?

Your decision

Choosing the right surgeon is your most important contribution to a successful operation. If you have any doubts about a doctor – even if he was recommended to you – do not hesitate to talk to two or three other surgeons as well. This will cost you another one or two additional medical bills. It might however spare you a – in many ways much more expensive - "repair-operation" if the first one fails.
