INTERNATIONAL:

To strike a Balance in Practising and Teaching Aesthetic Plastic Surgery: 45 Years of Experience

José Guerrerosantos, MD

Having the privilege  of pointing out the way to teach Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Jalisco Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Institute at the University of Guadalajara in Mexico, my great concern has been to get a balance in practising and teaching both Reconstructive and Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. In many Plastic Surgery Training Services the residents received instruction and practice in Reconstructive Surgery, and when the new Plastic Surgeon start to practice in private offices developed several bad results and complications. In my early practice I had this situation. For this reason in my service we have a program for a three-year period of full training in both areas. To start training in our unit it is mandatory that the resident have a full training in general surgery previously.
